A high-quality, exceptionally elegant, and profusely flowering annual variety of South American verbena (also known as Buenos Aires verbena), which delights gardeners and lovers of modern plantings with its airy structure, long flowering period, and superior quality. This elegant ornamental plant is specially suited for safe and stable cultivation in mixed flower beds, meadow-style plantings, and large patio pots, ensuring straight, visually perfect, and strong clumps. The plants grow unusually slender, sturdy, and boast narrow, serrated leaves and distinctly long, branched flower stalks bearing wonderful, violet-blue umbel-shaped florets. Kurzemes Sēklas packaging guarantees excellent, professionally selected seed quality and maximum germination rates for a successful and generous start to the summer and autumn ornamental garden season.
🌱 Suitable for:
  • The middle or back of modern flower beds and mixed plantings: This is one of the most sought-after and popular flowers in contemporary landscape design, serving as an excellent, airy, and transparent accent among perennials and grasses.
  • Naturalistic and "meadow-style" garden compositions: The plant lends a natural, light, and free atmosphere to the garden, perfectly filling space between other plants without creating heavy shade.
  • Attracting butterflies and bees to the garden: South American verbena is an excellent nectar plant that acts like a magnet, attracting countless butterflies, bees, and bumblebees, bringing additional life and movement to the garden.
  • Growing in large patio pots and containers: An excellent choice for planting in deep decorative pots, where it serves as a tall, elegant, and long-blooming vertical accent.
Main advantages:
  • Exceptionally long and continuous flowering period: Verbena begins to bloom in mid-summer (July) and tirelessly continues to unfurl new violet flower clouds until the first strong autumn frosts.
  • Slender, sturdy, and durable flower stalks: Despite its considerable height (can reach 100–120 cm), the plant's stems are unusually tough and strong – they do not require support and do not collapse even in strong winds or heavy rain.
  • Unrivaled transparency and airiness: Thanks to the foliage being concentrated mainly at the base of the plant, the long flower stalks form an airy veil, through which the plants growing behind are perfectly visible.
  • High resistance to heat and drought: The plant has an excellent ability to adapt to sunny summer days, has good drought resistance, and maintains its vibrancy even in intense sun.
  • Excellent seed germination and quality: Kurzemes Sēklas' professionally selected seed material ensures a uniform, dynamic, and healthy start for young seedlings already during the propagation period.

⚙️ Growing instructions and recommendations:
  • Soil selection and preparation: Verbena requires a fully sunny, warm, and bright location. The soil should be light, moderately fertile, loose, and very well-drained. In heavy, constantly wet, and dense clay soil, the plant will wither, and its roots may rot.
  • Sowing times and specifics: To ensure early and abundant flowering, sow seeds for seedlings indoors or in a greenhouse from March to early April. Sow seeds in seedling trays, pressing lightly onto the moist soil surface and barely covering with a thin layer of sand or substrate, as light stimulates germination. Maintain a temperature of around +18–22°C. If seeds germinate slowly, cold stratification can be applied (place the packet in the refrigerator for 1–2 weeks before sowing). Transplant hardened seedlings to their permanent outdoor location in late May after the frosts, maintaining a distance of 30–40 cm.
  • Care and watering: Young seedlings should be watered regularly after transplanting. Mature plants are very undemanding and drought-resistant – watering is only necessary during prolonged summer heat and drought periods.
  • Fertilization: For moderate and stable growth during the season, the plant can be fertilized a couple of times with a complex fertilizer for flowering plants, but care must be taken not to overdo the nitrogen, so that the plant does not grow only leaves at the expense of flowers.
📦 Storage:
Store seeds in a dry, cool, and dark place in their original, tightly sealed packaging until sowing. Protect from moisture and extreme temperature fluctuations.
