Hyacinth "Fondant" (Bulb size 18/19) – Sweet rose-pink elegance and intoxicating spring perfume
If your garden or pot compositions lack impeccable tenderness, romance, and sophisticated splendor, the hyacinth 'Fondant' is an ideal choice. This excellent and popular variety has earned its name thanks to the unique coloring of its flowers, which resembles a sweet, pink sugar glaze or an exquisite French dessert. Its petals shimmer in a soft rose-pink hue, elegantly blending silvery-pink and slightly darker stripes, creating an unparalleled three-dimensional effect. This variety instantly catches the eye and brings a warm, romantic, and festive mood to the spring garden.

🌟 Royal 18/19 size and exceptionally dense flower spikes
Our offered 18/19 size bulbs represent the highest "Jumbo" class. They are maximally large, strong, and nutrient-rich bulbs, guaranteeing that already in the first spring you will be greeted by exceptionally massive, long, and densely filled flower spikes, which are impossible to obtain from smaller planting material.
The plant reaches a stately and compact height of 25 to 30 centimeters. From its base, it forms rigid, sword-like leaves with a glossy, lush green surface, serving as a perfect, natural backdrop for the delicate flowers. The central flower stem is unusually thick and strong – it is designed as a sturdy pillar capable of proudly and straightly supporting the heavy, hundreds of star-shaped flowers-filled spike, without collapsing in spring rains or changing winds.
The culmination of flowering occurs in mid-April and May. Each flower resembles a small, perfect wax star with a gentle satin sheen in the sunlight. In addition to its visual triumph, 'Fondant' hides another treasure – an expressive, sweet, and intoxicatingly rich aroma that, like an exclusive spring perfume, will fill your entire garden and home.

🛡️ Excellent frost resistance and natural garden protection
Hyacinth 'Fondant' is incredibly tough and perfectly suited to Latvia's changeable weather conditions. It is unaffected by unexpected spring night frosts or capricious April snow – the thick, waxy petals bravely withstand the cold. This variety has excellent winter hardiness; the large bulbs reliably overwinter in the soil and do not need to be dug out every year.
Like other hyacinths and daffodils, this variety also acts as an unbeatable garden guard. The bulb contains specific natural substances whose aroma and taste are completely intolerable to underground pests. By planting 'Fondant', you will deter moles, water voles, field mice, and voles from your flowerbeds, providing ecological protection for adjacent tulip or lily beds as well. Deer and rabbits completely ignore this plant, while the blossoming flowers above ground serve as a valuable and early food source for the first bees and bumblebees.

🏡 Application in garden design and excellence in pot culture
Due to its compact growth, soft tone, and large size, this variety is a versatile design element:
  • In mixed spring beds: It creates fabulous color transitions when planted with dazzling white daffodils, light blue hyacinths, and early pastel-toned tulips.
  • In mass plantings: The best and most visually impressive effect will be achieved by planting these bulbs in larger groups of 5, 10, or 20 together, creating magnificent, pink spring islands or elegant path edge accents that are noticeable from a distance.
  • For growing in flower pots and balcony boxes: Since the bulb is size 18/19, it is ideally suited for forcing and growing in containers on the terrace, balcony, or by the house entrance. In a pot, it will look expressive, expensive, and well-maintained, delighting with its fragrance up close.
  • Floristry favorite: An excellent cut flower variety. In a vase indoors, the flowers remain fresh, firm, and impeccable for a long time (up to two weeks), gradually opening and filling the room with an unparalleled scent of spring nature.

🌱 Practical information for cultivation
  • Planting time: Bulbs are planted in the garden in autumn – from mid-September until late October or early November, before the ground freezes. Hyacinths prefer relatively late planting when the soil temperature drops below +10°C.
  • Location and soil: Will thrive best in full sun or very bright, moderate partial shade. The more sun the hyacinth receives, the denser the flower spike will be and the more expressive its pink tone. The soil should be rich in humus, fertile, neutral, and обязательно loose. Excellent drainage is the main prerequisite – the plant does not tolerate standing moisture, which can cause the bulb to rot.
  • Planting depth: Large 18/19 size bulbs are planted approximately 12 to 15 centimeters deep (the soil layer above the bulb should be twice the height of the bulb itself). The distance between bulbs – approximately 10 to 15 centimeters, so that each flower has enough space to expand.
  • Care: After flowering, immediately cut off the flower head so that the plant does not waste energy on ripening seeds, but redirects all energy back to the bulb. Leaves and stem are cut off only when they have naturally yellowed and withered in mid-summer, as through them the bulb gathers strength for next year's flowering. Can grow in one place for 3 to 4 years without transplanting.
