If you are looking for a spring bulb flower that will instantly create a sense of luxury and aristocracy in your garden, the large-cupped daffodil British Gamble is an absolute masterpiece. This is one of the largest, most impressive, and prestigious daffodil varieties in the world. It completely captivates with its monumental size, impeccable shape, and delicate interplay of pastel shades. It is an excellent choice for those who want to bring a truly exclusive and striking accent to their spring garden that will make every passerby stop and admire.

🌟 Giant Flowers and Romantic Colour Transformation
The British Gamble variety boasts a distinctly strong, stately, and tall stature, reaching approximately 40 to 50 centimetres in height. It forms thick, rigid, and exceptionally stable flower stalks and neat, strap-shaped greyish-green leaves. The plant is excellently suited to the changeable and capricious spring weather, as the massive stems proudly stand against gusty winds and heavy rain, safely carrying the weight of the large flowers.
The culmination of flowering occurs in mid-spring, most often in late April and May. On each stem, one gigantic, proud flower blooms, whose diameter can reach an incredible 12 to 14 centimetres. The main splendour of this variety lies in its unique play of colours and form. The outer perianth petals are large, smooth, arranged in impeccable symmetry, and shimmer in a pure, sparkling snow-white colour. In the centre is a very large, expanded, funnel-shaped corona or trumpet with a distinctly wavy and ruffled edge. At the beginning of blooming, this corona is a delicate cream colour with a distinct yellow rim, but as it catches the spring sun's rays, it undergoes a magical transformation, gradually turning into a refined, warm, and romantic apricot-pink tone. The flowers emit a pleasant, delicate, and sweet fragrance.

🛡️ Invincible Natural Shield Against Garden Pests
Like other large daffodils, British Gamble perfectly combines exclusive aesthetics with a distinctly practical garden protection function. The underground bulbs and plant sap contain the natural protective substance, alkaloid lycorine. This substance is toxic and extremely unpalatable to underground rodents. By planting these bulbs, you will create a safe, natural protective barrier that will completely repel moles, water voles, field mice, and voles from your favourite flowerbeds. This is an excellent, ecological way to protect adjacent tulip or lily beds, which rodents so covet. Deer and rabbits also completely ignore and leave this plant untouched, while above ground, the sweet nectar serves as valuable food for bees and spring butterflies.

🏡 Garden Design Application and Excellence in Floristry
Due to its gigantic size and royal contrast, British Gamble is a top favourite among landscape architects and florists:
  • In mixed spring flowerbeds: It looks fantastic planted in groups in the middle ground of beds next to blue hyacinths, dark purple tulips, and early spring perennials.
  • For groupings in lawns and under trees: The best effect will be achieved by planting these bulbs in larger groups of five to ten bulbs together, where they will appear as magnificent, snow-white islands with pink hearts in spring.
  • Floristry masterpiece: British Gamble is an excellent cut flower variety. The enormous flowers and straight, strong stems add a special grandeur and texture to spring bouquets, and they remain fresh and neat in a vase at home for a very long time.

🌱 Practical Growing Information
  • Planting time: Bulbs are planted in autumn, usually from mid-September to late October. It is advisable to plant daffodils early, while the soil is still warm, so that they can successfully develop a strong root system before winter frost sets in.
  • Location and soil: Will thrive best in full sun or bright, light semi-shade. The better the light, the more expressive and vibrant the transformation of the corona's pink tones will be. The soil should be rich in organic matter, fertile, loose, and absolutely well-drained. The plant does not tolerate standing spring or winter moisture and heavy clay.
  • Planting depth: Bulbs are planted approximately 12 to 15 centimetres deep, observing the rule that the planting depth should be three times the height of the bulb. When planting, it is advisable to leave a distance of approximately 12 to 15 centimetres between them so that each gigantic flower has room to unfold.
  • Winter hardiness and care: A fully hardy perennial bulb flower that overwinters excellently in the ground in Latvian winters without additional covering. In one place, they can grow undisturbed, spread, and bloom for years, returning more lush each spring.
