A high-quality, mid-late, and exceptionally high-yielding elongated beetroot variety, particularly valued by gardeners for its compact growth habit and unparalleled ease of use in the kitchen.Cylindra is a legendary and highly sought-after variety that produces long, cylindrical vegetables instead of traditional round roots. This beetroot is an excellent choice for those who want to maximize their garden space efficiently, as its unique shape allows plants to be planted significantly closer together, achieving a record-breaking harvest weight per square meter. The W. Legutko 15-gram package offers a very generous and economical quantity of seeds, ensuring excellent germination and a strong start for young shoots.
🌱 Suitable for:
  • Kitchen preparation, canning, and grating: The absolute best culinary application for this variety – its elongated shape allows the beet to be cut into visually perfect, smooth slices, ideal for pickling in jars and preparing winter salads.
  • Small garden plots and raised beds: Since the roots grow downwards rather than outwards, these plants can be planted much closer together, yielding a substantial total harvest in a small area.
  • Home cooking, soups, and borscht: Excellent for preparing traditional borscht, as well as baking in foil and processing vibrant winter preserves.
  • Long-term storage during winter months: The roots are distinguished by their excellent storage capability – they perfectly retain their firmness, juiciness, and nutritional value in a cool cellar or sand until spring.
Key advantages:
  • Unique and practical cylindrical shape: The beetroots grow long, cylindrical, with a smooth, dark skin, reaching an average length of 15 to 20 centimeters.
  • Intense and uniformly dark red flesh: The inside of the root is characterized by a smooth, saturated dark red color almost entirely without woody rings, ensuring excellent product quality and a tender texture.
  • Mild, distinctly sweet and juicy flavor profile: The variety contains a high concentration of natural sugar, offering a juicy, pleasantly sweet, and full-bodied flavor without coarse or dry fibers.
  • Exceptionally easy and quick vegetable peeling: Due to the smooth and straight shape of the root, it is extremely easy and quick to peel or grate, reducing waste and saving time in the kitchen.
  • Generous and economical 15g packaging: The abundant quantity of seeds in the packet allows for planting extensive garden rows at a very affordable price and ensures a stable beet harvest for the entire season.

⚙️ Sowing instructions and recommendations:
  • Soil preparation: As this variety forms long and deep roots, beets require deeply dug, loose, fertile, and well-drained soil with a neutral pH, preferably sandy loam or loamy sand. Before sowing, thoroughly clear the bed of stones, weeds, and large clods of earth to ensure the roots grow straight.
  • Sowing time and depth: Seeds are sown in open ground from May to early June in prepared furrows at a depth of approximately 2 to 3 centimeters. The recommended distance between rows is about 25 to 30 centimeters.
  • Care and mandatory thinning: Since beet seeds are naturally clusters (multiple shoots grow from one cluster), the seedlings must be carefully thinned after germination. When the seedlings reach a height of a few centimeters, thin them out, leaving approximately 6 to 8 centimeters between plants to allow each beet to grow a full-sized root.
  • Watering: Water beets moderately but regularly, especially during the seed germination phase and during intensive root swelling in mid-summer. Maintain consistent moisture for maximum juicy and crispy roots.
📦 Storage:
Store seeds in a dry, cool, and dark place in their original, tightly sealed packaging until sowing. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight.
