Small, distinctly elegant and unusually profusely flowering plants that delight gardeners, balcony owners and flower bed enthusiasts with their structured foliage, delicate appearance and continuous flowering. The color mix of Mexican zinnias (also known worldwide as Zinnia haageana or Zinnia mexicana) from the W. Legutko breeding house is a top-quality variety that brings a sophisticated, exotic and unusually vibrant color cascade to the garden throughout the summer and autumn. This professionally selected mix boasts more compact, distinctly branched bushes and hundreds of small, unusual flowers. The flowers are mostly double or semi-double and surprise with their unique two-tone coloring – they elegantly combine warm sunny yellow, orange, cream and rich reddish-brown tones with contrasting petal edges. By its nature, this is a reliable, unusually robust and fast-growing annual plant that gives the garden impeccable structure and outstanding decorativeness. The carefully prepared 0.5g seed packet from W. Legutko guarantees excellent germination and high varietal uniformity, providing the opportunity to grow this generous and compact exotic queen of balconies and flower beds yourself.
🌱 Suitable for:
  • Balcony boxes, flower pots and terrace containers: Unlike their large dahlia-flowered relatives, Mexican zinnias are significantly shorter and more compact, making them a perfect choice for confined spaces, for greening loggias or external window sills.
  • Flower bed foregrounds, borders and rock gardens: The plants naturally maintain a low, dense and bushy form, making them perfect as a color accent and a living border along paths or at the very front of large flower beds.
  • Compact summer bouquets and floristry: The delicate flowers on strong stems are excellently suited for creating small, vibrant and expressive summer arrangements, in which they remain fresh in a vase for a very long time.
Main advantages:
  • Exotic and dynamic two-tone coloring: Mexican zinnias stand out with their unusual, natural color zoning (e.g., dark flower center with light petal tips), which gives the garden distinct visual depth.
  • Excellent resistance to heat and drought: This species is genetically much more resistant to heat, strong sun and temporary lack of moisture than common zinnias, maintaining an impeccable appearance even on hot August days.
  • Continuous flowering and strong immunity: The plant begins to bloom in early summer (June) and persistently continues to produce new, vibrant flowers until the first strong autumn frosts, also showing good resistance to powdery mildew.
  • Excellent seed germination and purity: The 0.5g package contains professionally selected seeds with high germination power, ensuring dynamic, healthy and uniform development of young seedlings.

⚙️ Growing instructions and recommendations:
  • Sowing and seedling cultivation: For earlier flowering, seeds should be sown in spring – in April in seedling trays or pots indoors on a moist peat base. Seeds are sown shallowly (approximately 0.5 cm deep), lightly pressed and carefully watered. Seeds germinate quickly and evenly, usually sprouting within 5–7 days at a temperature of +18 to +22 degrees. For direct sowing in the garden, seeds can be sown in mid-May.
  • Planting and spacing: Young plants are planted outdoors or in balcony boxes in the second half of May or early June, when spring night frosts have completely ended, as zinnias do not tolerate cold. It is recommended to maintain a distance of approximately 20x25 cm between plants to allow them to form a completely dense and flowering carpet as they grow.
  • Site and soil selection: Mexican zinnias absolutely require an open, maximally sunny, hot and warm location. The plant prefers fertile, humus-rich, well-worked and moderately moist soil, but it is less demanding of soil composition compared to other zinnias and tolerates lighter soil perfectly.
  • Care and the most important rule: Although this variety tolerates drought excellently, regular watering in containers on hot days will ensure more spectacular flowers. When watering, try to water directly at the root, without wetting the leaves. Timely removal of old, spent flower heads will stimulate the formation of new buds and significantly prolong the overall flowering period.
