If you are looking for perfection among giant ornamental onions, the Ambassador variety is an absolute leader and a masterpiece of garden design. This plant fully lives up to its name – it acts as a garden ambassador, showcasing the highest elegance, majesty, and sophistication. It is a hybrid purposefully created to surpass older giant varieties, offering gardeners even denser flower spheres, brighter colors, and unparalleled durability.

👑 Perfect silhouette and expressive saturation
The Ambassador variety boasts excellent proportions and a strong structure. Its flower stalks are massive, straight, and amazingly sturdy, reaching approximately 110 to 130 centimeters in height. The stalks are so strong that they never fall over and effortlessly support the weight of the enormous flower even during strong summer storms and rain.
The flowering time is a great advantage of this variety – it blooms in June and flowers for a very long time, often continuing to delight the eye until early July. The inflorescence is a perfectly round, distinctly large, and massive sphere, reaching 15 to 20 centimeters in diameter. It consists of thousands of delicate, star-shaped florets arranged so densely that the flower ball appears completely opaque and uniform. The color is stunning – an expressive, deep, and saturated royal purple hue that does not fade in the sun and literally illuminates the flowerbed.

🛡️ Foliage advantage and nature protection
One of the most unique characteristics of Ambassador, which distinguishes it from other giant varieties, is its foliage. While most ornamental onions' leaves begin to yellow and wither before the flowers open, Ambassador's broad, lush green leaves remain neat and decorative for significantly longer, providing a beautiful visual base for the vibrant flower balls.
Like other ornamental onions, this aristocrat is an excellent garden guardian. The aroma of its underground parts and sap naturally repels moles, water voles, and mice, protecting nearby plants. Above ground, the flowers emit a pleasant aroma that attracts bees, bumblebees, and beautiful butterflies like a magnet.

🏡 Application in garden design and floristry
Due to its outstanding visual properties, Ambassador is a favorite among garden designers and florists of the highest caliber:
    • As a main accent: It is ideal for planting in modern, minimalist, and classic gardens, where a couple of such plants create an immediate sense of luxury.
    • Excellent combinations: It looks fantastic combined with white peonies, late tulips, silvery lamb's ears, lavenders, and vibrant ornamental grasses.
    • Floristry gem: The flowers are excellent for cutting in large bouquets and floor vases, where they remain fresh for weeks. After flowering, their seed heads dry, retaining their immaculate shape – they can be used in dried flower arrangements throughout the winter.

    🌱 Practical information on cultivation
    • Planting time: Bulbs are planted in autumn, from mid-September until early November, before the ground is completely frozen. The coolness of autumn is necessary for the bulb to root successfully and provide maximum vigor in spring.
    • Location and soil: Requires a completely sunny and open location. The soil should be fertile, loose, and excellently drained. The plant does not tolerate standing moisture, which can cause the bulb to rot in winter.
    • Planting depth: Bulbs are planted approximately 15 to 20 centimeters deep (three times the height of the bulb). For the most impressive and natural effect, it is recommended to plant them in small groups of 3 to 5 bulbs, maintaining a distance of about 25 to 30 centimeters between them.
    • Winter hardiness: Fully frost-hardy in the Latvian climate. Bulbs can safely remain in the ground for years and will return more splendid each year.
