Top-quality, carefully selected, medium-early, and exceptionally high-yielding field cucumber hybrid variety (Rufus F1 or H-type), which is one of the most sought-after and reliable choices for growing small gherkins (pickling cucumbers) in Latvian gardens. This vigorous hybrid is specially bred for versatile cultivation in open fields, garden beds, as well as under temporary film or agro-net covers. The fruits develop visually and structurally perfectly — they are distinctly short, stout, of regular cylindrical shape, and bright green with pronounced coarse warts. This compact garden 1 gram package(containing approximately 35–50 seeds of the highest germination) from the reliable local producer Kurzemes Sēklas is the excellent choice for every gardener who wants to ensure a stable and premium quality harvest of crispy pickling cucumbers in their backyard garden.

🌱 Suitable for:
  • Ideal for growing and pickling small gherkins: The fruits do not deform or grow too thick (do not become barrel-shaped), making them an absolute favorite for winter preserves and crispy pickles.
  • For fermentation (salting) and immediate consumption: The dense structure without voids ensures that the cucumbers retain their natural crunch after processing, while fresh, they are great as healthy summer snacks.
  • For open field and garden bed cultivation: The plant is highly stress-resistant, easily adapts to changing outdoor conditions, and consistently produces a harvest until early autumn.
  • For home gardeners and hobby growers: The 1-gram packaging is the ideal amount to fully plant one or more family garden beds without overpaying for excess seeds.
Key advantages:
  • Dominant number of female flowers: Ensures an exceptionally high and guaranteed fruit set percentage, directly guaranteeing a massive and abundant harvest throughout the season.
  • Excellent complex disease immunity: Rufus F1 has strong genetic resistance and tolerance to cucumber scab (cladosporiosis), as well as to powdery mildew and the dangerous cucumber mosaic virus.
  • Genetically protected against bitterness: The fruits have a pleasant, naturally refreshing and sweet taste; they never become bitter, even if there is uneven moisture during the summer heat.
  • Perfect uniformity of commercial grade: Cucumbers grow uniformly, maintaining an excellent visual shape, which is especially important for a beautiful and aesthetic jar filling.
  • High germination rate of Kurzemes Sēklas: Seeds are carefully laboratory tested, cleaned, and calibrated, guaranteeing strong and uniform sprouts right from the start.

⚙️ Instructions for use and care:
  • Sowing time and seedling cultivation: For an earlier harvest, sow seedlings in pots at the end of April. For direct sowing in open ground, sow seeds in May or June, when the soil has completely warmed up and there is no longer a threat of spring frosts. The sowing depth is approximately 2 cm.
  • Planting density and scheme: When growing in open ground beds, it is recommended to plant approximately 3–5 seedlings per square meter (1 m²) in well-cultivated garden soil.
  • Watering and fertilizing: For fertilizing, it is recommended to use well-rotted compost or granular organo-mineral fertilizers. Watering is critically important during flowering, fruit set, and growth – water with warm water directly at the root.
  • Harvesting: To obtain the best and finest pickling cucumbers, as well as to stimulate continuous formation of new flowers, it is recommended to harvest regularly (every other day or even daily).
📦 Storage:
Store the seed packet in the manufacturer's original packaging in a dry, cool, and dark place until sowing. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight to maintain maximum germination percentage.
