⚙️ Growing instructions and recommendations:
- Seedling cultivation: To ensure a faster and safer harvest in the Latvian climate, sow seeds in individual seedling pots at the end of April, about 2-3 cm deep. Constant warmth (+20°C to +24°C) and moderate humidity must be provided.
- Planting out: Hardened young plants are planted in garden beds in the second half of May (after spring frosts) or early June. As the plant forms strong, medium-length vines, the recommended planting distance is at least 100x100 cm or 150x100 cm.
- Location and soil selection: Choose the sunniest and warmest spot in the garden for pumpkins. The soil should be deeply worked, loose, and rich in nutrients. Excellent results can be achieved by planting directly next to a compost pile or at the base of well-rotted manure.
- Harvesting and storage: Harvest fruits in autumn before the first autumn frosts. Ripeness is determined by the skin becoming hard and the stem starting to lignify and become dry. When harvesting, it is essential to leave a 5-10 cm long stem. Before long-term storage in a cool place, it is recommended to keep the pumpkins in the sun or a warm room for a week for the skin to fully harden.
