A high-quality, early, and exceptionally productive bush-type pattypan squash variety that delights gardeners and culinary enthusiasts with its compact growth, unique shape, and excellent taste. The Disco variety is a special garden treasure – its fruits visually resemble disc-shaped pattypan squash or elegantly wavy planets, standing out with a clean, snow-white to softly creamy rind. Unlike traditional pumpkins, this variety does not spread with long vines in the garden but grows in a neat, compact bush, making it an excellent choice even for small gardens. The Toraf 4-gram package guarantees excellent seed quality and high germination rates for a successful, fast, and safe start to the gardening season.
🎃 Suitable for:
  • Owners of compact gardens and limited spaces: As the plant forms a compact bush rather than long vines, this variety is perfectly suited for small beds, raised beds, and beginner gardeners.
  • Gourmet home cooking and pickling: Young, small fruits are excellent for canning and pickling whole, while larger squashes are a great choice for casseroles, soups, and stews.
  • Healthy eating and fitness diets: The flesh is low in calories and high in nutritional value. It is easily digestible and perfect for preparing vegetable side dishes, replacing heavier carbohydrates.
  • Baking and stuffing in the oven: Thanks to their flat and unique disc shape, these squashes are ideal for cutting in half, stuffing with minced meat, cheese, or vegetables, and baking whole.
Main advantages:
  • Compact bush form: The plant does not take up much space and does not "conquer" neighboring beds. This simplifies care, weeding, and harvesting, allowing for maximum efficient use of garden space.
  • Tender, firm and crispy flesh: Under the white rind lies thick, dense, and creamy white flesh with a distinctly fine texture. It has a pleasant, naturally mild taste that perfectly absorbs the aromas of added spices and sauces.
  • Unique and highly decorative appearance: The disc-shaped fruits with their characteristic wavy edges look unusual and aesthetically pleasing in the garden. They also serve as an excellent autumnal accent in the visual design of the garden.
  • Early and continuous productivity: The variety starts producing relatively quickly, and by regularly harvesting young fruits, the bush continues to flower and form new fruit sets throughout the summer and autumn until frost.
  • Excellent seed germination and vigor: Toraf seeds are characterized by high germination energy, ensuring uniform sprouts and strong development of young seedlings already in the plant raising phase.

⚙️ Growing instructions and recommendations:
  • Growing seedlings: To ensure the earliest possible harvest, sow seeds in individual seedling pots at a depth of about 2–3 cm in late April or early May. Constant warmth (+20°C to +24°C) and moderate humidity must be provided.
  • Planting in a permanent spot: Transplant hardened young seedlings into garden beds in the second half of May or early June, when the risk of spring frosts has completely passed. As this is a bushy variety, the recommended planting distance is relatively compact – about 70x70 cm or 80x80 cm.
  • Site and soil selection: Pattypan squash requires a sunny, warm, and wind-protected location. The soil should be loose, fertile, warm, and richly improved with compost or well-rotted manure.
  • Harvesting and storage: For culinary purposes, it is best to harvest the fruits when they are medium-sized and the skin is still relatively soft – then they are most delicious. If you want to store them longer for autumn, let the fruits ripen completely until the skin becomes hard. When harvesting, always leave a small stem attached.
📦 Storage:
Until sowing, store seeds in a dry, cool, and dark place, in their original and tightly sealed packaging. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight.
