If you are looking for a lily that will instantly bring a sense of luxury and grand scale to your garden, the Oriental and Trumpet Lily hybrid, or tree lily, Beijing Moon, is an excellent choice. This high-value variety, highly sought after by gardeners, belongs to the exclusive Orienpet lily group. Beijing Moon stands out with its unusual, warm pastel color play, which in the sun looks like a soft moon glow, and exceptional vitality, reaching ever closer to the sky with each passing year.

👑 Mighty tree growth and huge star trumpets
This variety fully lives up to its tree lily name. In the first year after planting the bulb, it reaches a standard height of 110 to 120 centimeters. However, with successful rooting and growth in good conditions, in the second and third year, its thick, astonishingly strong stems can reach an incredible height of 150 to even 180 centimeters. The stems are so sturdy that they can effortlessly support the weight of the large flowers and proudly withstand summer storms and downpours without additional support.
The blooming peak occurs in mid to late summer, typically in July and August. At the end of the stem, a cluster of huge flowers unfurls, with up to 10 to 15 impressive flowers opening simultaneously, reaching a diameter of 20 to 22 centimeters. The flowers are elegantly directed sideways or slightly downwards, and their shape resembles refined, wide funnels or trumpets. The color combination is a sophisticated work of art. The base color of the petals is pure, shimmering creamy white or ivory, while the outer parts and edges of the petals are adorned with a delicate pink, lilac-pink, or apricot-toned overlay. The deep throat of the flower glows with a vibrant yellow or golden center with dark stamens. The greatest triumph of these lilies is their fragrance, as they emit an incredibly strong, refined, and intoxicatingly sweet aroma that will fill the entire garden in the evenings.

🛡️ Excellent winter hardiness and vitality of tree lilies
Despite its exotic and majestic appearance, Beijing Moon is an incredibly hardy, healthy, and perfectly suited variety for the Latvian climate. It has excellent winter hardiness and can withstand even very harsh frosts, reliably overwintering in the soil directly in the bed and not requiring bulb digging in the autumn.
As this plant is distinctly perennial, once planted in the right spot, it will become more powerful and lush each year, producing an abundant number of buds on a single flower stem in the third year. Above ground, its shiny, dark green, and long leaves remain decorative throughout the growing season, while underground, the strong root system and deep planting help the plant reliably absorb all necessary nutrients.

🏡 Place in garden design and excellence in floristry
Due to its impressive tree-like growth and perfect forms, Beijing Moon is very versatile in the garden:
  • For the back of the border: It is ideal for planting in mixed perennial beds as the very last background, where the pastel-colored flowers will rise above all other plants like a living sculpture.
  • Near terraces, gazebos, and relaxation areas: This variety is recommended to be planted close to areas where you spend most of your evenings to fully enjoy its exquisite and sweet fragrance.
  • Floristry masterpiece: These flowers are ideal for cutting. The straight and sturdy stems make them convenient for use in large floral arrangements or grand floor vases, where the flowers remain fresh and neat in the home for a very long time.

🌱 Practical information for cultivation
  • Planting time: Bulbs can be planted in the garden in spring, in April and May, as well as in autumn, in September and October, as long as the ground has not yet frozen. Bulbs planted in autumn manage to root successfully in the warm soil, ensuring a more successful start in spring.
  • Location and soil: It will thrive best in full sun or light, bright partial shade, sheltered from the wind. The soil should be rich in organic matter, fertile, neutral to slightly acidic, and absolutely well-prepared and loose. The most important condition is excellent drainage, as the plant does not tolerate standing spring or winter moisture. Lilies also like the principle of having their head in the sun but their feet in the cool. This can be achieved in summer by mulching the planting area or planting lower perennials, such as hostas, around the base.
  • Planting depth: Since the bulbs are large, they are planted relatively deep, about 15 to 20 centimeters deep, observing the classic rule that the depth should be three times the height of the bulb. The recommended planting distance between bulbs is approximately 20 to 30 centimeters.
  • Care: After flowering, it is advisable to cut off the seed pods and spent flower heads so that the plant does not waste energy on ripening seeds, but rather redirects all energy back to the bulb. Stems and foliage are cut to the base only in autumn, when they have naturally yellowed and dried.
