A royal spring golden triumph, exotic fringed flowers, and excellent garden durability!
If you are looking for a spring bulb that will bring a truly exclusive, vibrant, and unusual texture to your garden, the fringed tulip Yellow Fabio is an excellent choice. This high-quality and highly sought-after variety completely changes the perception of classic smooth tulips. It boasts an exquisite, needle-like fringed edge that gives the flowers a luxurious, airy, and slightly exotic look, creating the feeling that each petal is adorned with delicate spring ice crystals.
🌟 Corrugated cup and golden satin structure
The Yellow Fabio variety belongs to the Fringed tulip group, which guarantees a unique aesthetic and excellent flower durability in the gardening world. The plant reaches an average height of 40 to 50 centimeters. From the base, it forms strong, straight stems and neat, broad, lush green leaves. The stems are amazingly strong and stable – they effortlessly bear the weight of the large flower without bending even in capricious spring winds or rain and do not require any additional support.
The peak of flowering occurs in mid to late spring, most often in May. Each sturdy stem produces one large, expressive, and indescribably magnificent flower cup. The color of the flowers is pure energy – a saturated, bright, and royally golden-yellow hue. The main pride and unique calling card of this variety is the richly and deeply serrated edge of each petal with fine, dense fringes. In sunlight, the petals shimmer with a soft satin glow, creating stunning three-dimensional volume and a seemingly sparkling effect. The flowers emit a pleasant, classic, and very gentle spring aroma.
🛡️ Durability and vitality of fringed hybrids
Yellow Fabio is an incredibly tough, healthy, and resilient plant against adverse spring weather conditions. As this is a high-quality hybrid variety, the structure of the petals and their fringes is thick, dense, and firm. They perfectly withstand sudden spring night frosts and do not lose their impeccable shape and sharpness even after heavy rains. This variety has excellent frost resistance, so the large bulbs safely and without problems overwinter in Latvian soil and do not need to be dug out every year for winter.
Above ground, the magnificent, open flower cups serve as a valuable and abundant food source for bees, bumblebees, and the first spring butterflies. The underground bulbs successfully absorb all necessary nutrients, providing the plant with maximum strength and energy for an excellent spring start.
🏡 Application in garden design and excellence in floristry
Due to its royal stature and expressive texture, this variety is a favorite among gardeners and florists in garden planning and bouquets:
- In mixed spring beds: It is a perfect choice for planting in the middle of flowerbeds, where the bright yellow color and fringes create a stunning contrast and focal point next to dark purple or red tulips and blue hyacinths.
- In mass plantings and display beds: The best and most visually impressive effect will be achieved by planting these bulbs in larger groups of five, ten, or twenty bulbs together, creating unusual, fluffy textured carpets and bright spring islands visible from afar.
- For growing in pots and containers: Thanks to its compact form, this variety looks expressive and tidy in large containers on terraces, balconies, or at the house entrance, where its delicate fringed structure can be enjoyed up close.
- Queen of floristry and bouquets: Yellow Fabio is a fantastic cut flower variety. Its straight, firm stems make it convenient for use in spring flower bouquets. In a vase at home, these flowers remain fresh, firm, and impeccable for an incredibly long time, gradually and elegantly opening and adding a festive spring atmosphere to the room.
🌱 Practical information on cultivation
- Planting time: Bulbs are planted in the garden in autumn, ideally from mid-September to early November, before serious frost sets in and the ground freezes. Autumn and winter cold are essential for the bulb to bloom successfully in all its glory in spring.
- Location and soil: It will thrive best in full sun or very bright, moderate partial shade. The more sun the tulips receive, the more splendidly, quickly, and completely their large cups will open. The soil should be rich in humus, fertile, neutral, and necessarily loose, light. The most important condition is excellent drainage, as the plant does not tolerate standing spring or winter moisture, which can cause the bulbs to rot.
- Planting depth: Bulbs are planted approximately 10 to 15 centimeters deep, following the classic rule that the depth should be three times the height of the bulb. When planting, it is advisable to leave a distance of approximately 10 to 15 centimeters between bulbs so that each flower has enough space to develop.
- Care: After flowering, it is advisable to immediately break off or cut off the flower head itself so that the plant does not expend energy on ripening seeds but instead directs all energy back to the bulb. Stems and foliage are cut to the base only when they have naturally yellowed and completely dried. To maintain maximum flower size and strength in the long term, it is recommended to dig up the bulbs every two years in mid-summer, dry them, and replant them in autumn.
