A high-quality, exquisite, and extremely sought-after variety of double late tulips (Double Late Tulip) that surprises spring gardens and terraces with its incredibly dramatic, regal, and mystical appearance. Black Hero is one of the most unique and elegant dark tulips in the world, often referred to as the double sister of the legendary "Queen of Night" variety. Its bud, when blooming, forms a stunning, peony-like composition – the flowers grow enormous, densely double, and boast a distinctive, glossy, and deep satin black-violet to dark burgundy color. The premium 11/12 size bulbs contain the highest concentration of nutrients and vital energy, guaranteeing magnificent blooming already in the first spring. The exclusive 5-bulb pack provides the perfect volume for creating a neat, uniform, and mysterious group of flowers.
🌷 Suitable for:
  • Exclusive and eye-catching garden design: This tulip is made to be the main star of the garden – it's a perfect choice for planting in the most visible spot, in central flower beds or near the house entrance, where its dramatic hue will instantly attract everyone's attention.
  • Growing in decorative pots and terrace containers: Thanks to its excellent decorative effect and sturdy stem, this variety is ideal for planting in beautiful outdoor flower pots, which will transform your balcony or terrace into an elegant oasis in late spring.
  • Premium level cut flower bouquets and floristry: These tulips are a dream for florists and masters of exclusive compositions – the large, double, satin dark flowers in a vase look like a luxurious work of art and retain their structure and color for a long time.
  • Creating contrasting spring compositions: Perfectly pairs with white, soft pink, or pastel yellow tulips, where Black Hero's dark coloration creates a stunning and modern visual contrast.
Key advantages:
  • Stunning, glossy satin black-violet shade: The deep and uniform regal color attracts attention from a distance and gives the garden a modern, sophisticated, and elite feel.
  • Excellent and stable 11/12 bulb size: This professionally recognized premium caliber guarantees maximum bud strength, ensuring large, full-bodied, and richly double flowers from each planted bulb.
  • Dense, peony-like double fill: The flower consists of countless layers of petals that bloom gradually and slowly, ensuring that each bud is voluminous, heavy, and retains its splendor longer than ordinary tulips.
  • Sturdy, strong, and wind-resistant stem: Despite the large and heavy flower heads, the plant forms a very strong and sturdy stem (about 40–50 cm tall) that can excellently hold the flower upright, stably resisting spring gusts and rain.
  • Long flowering period in late spring: As this is a late double tulip, it blooms when early varieties have already finished flowering, concluding the spring bulb season in the garden with splendor and exclusivity.

⚙️ Planting instructions and recommendations:
  • Site and soil selection: Tulips prefer an open, sunny, and well-lit spot in the garden (light partial shade is also acceptable). The soil should be loose, light, fertile, deeply worked, and rich in humus (sandy loam or clay-sandy soil). It is desirable to ensure a neutral pH (6.5–7.0) and essential to have excellent water permeability. This exclusive variety absolutely dislikes standing moisture and waterlogged clay, which can cause bulbs to rot. For pot cultivation, a 2–3 cm thick layer of expanded clay for drainage must be placed at the bottom.
  • Planting depth and spacing: The planting depth of the bulb should be equal to three times the bulb's height (for 11/12 size, this means an average depth of 10 cm from the base of the bulb to the soil surface). The recommended spacing between bulbs in a bed is approximately 10 cm, but in pots, they can be planted more densely (2–3 cm apart) to achieve a maximally lush and dense effect. To create a visually impressive group, it is recommended to plant all 5 bulbs in the pack together in one compact "nest" or to use special bulb planting baskets, which will protect this treasure from rodents.
  • Care in spring and after flowering: As soon as the first shoots appear in spring, carefully loosen the soil around them and fertilize with a complex spring fertilizer. During flowering and active growth, if spring is prolonged and dry, regular watering must be provided. Once the tulips have finished flowering, the old flower heads (seed pods) must be broken off or cut off to prevent the plant from wasting energy on seeds and instead direct all its strength towards ripening a new, strong bulb underground.
  • Leaf preservation and digging up: After flowering, tulip leaves and stems must absolutely not be cut off until they naturally yellow and dry out (usually by the end of June or July) – the bulb receives valuable nutrients through the leaves. To maintain high varietal quality and protect against diseases, it is recommended to dig up tulip bulbs annually (or at least every two years) in mid-summer, dry them thoroughly in a warm, well-ventilated room, and replant them in autumn.
📦 Storage until planting:
Store tulip bulbs in a dry, cool (approximately +15°C to +18°C), dark, and well-ventilated room, in breathable (paper or net) packaging until planting in autumn. Protect from moisture and rodent access.
